Watering Question

Help...I'm locked in a heated battle with my mother-in-law...A florist friend of mine told me it's best to let your hibiscus dry out on occasion, but my mother-in-law "begs to differ" with me and insists they need to be kept well watered at all times...Who's right???

Well, you're both kind of correct! Here is advice from the Tropical Hibiscus society web page:

    Q. Do I have to water them every day?
    A. Hibiscus do not like wet feet, but neither should they be allowed to dry out -- especially in hot weather. Organic matter in the soil and mulch on top help to maintain a constant level of moisture in the summer. In pots or not, good drainage is very important!

Personally, I let mine get just dry on top, so they're still damp underneath and then I water again.
