7 Hibiscus with New House--Help!

I just bought a new house and it has seven (!) hibiscus plants in the yard. They are all about six feet tall and either dormant or dead. I'm just learning that typically one prunes them in the fall. Since the previous owner didn't do this, how should I proceed? Do I cut them back now? Is it too late?

Any help would be tremendously appreciated!

Andrea, you can just cut them at ground level if they are hardy Hibiscus. They are very late to start growing but grow fast once they get going. Some people have plants that they refer to as Hibiscus that are in the Rose of Sharon family only with larger blossoms. To be safe, cut into the stalk and see if there is any green in it. If there is green showing you should let it be.
