Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis - Can i dig them up?

Hi there! My father and I both just rescued some hibiscus from Lowe's off the dollar shelf and they are both doing fine right now in the garden outside, getting plenty of sun and food, etc. Can i dig them up out of the ground come fall and put them in a pot or would that be too much for them?

Sure, why not? I have a 12-year old potted one that I have had to repot several times over the years. It might complain a bit (leaf yellowing and dropping), but should recover. You might consider pruning the top back some to make it easier to pot (and to eventually encourage new growth for later blooms).

I planted a big 4 foot single red flowered one in the ground this year and also a double peach(it is sooo beautiful, I luv it) braided one in the ground.
They are both soooo happy to be free!
The big one is getting even bigger. Whoops, I hope I can dig that one up. Oh well, I'm sure if I prune it it will be alright. LOL (my family is going to think I am crazy)
They look great in the ground!
THey are addictive.
Still want a double yellow.
