those darn squirrels

i have a hibiscus in a pot by the pool. i like it there and so do the squirrels. i have witnesed several of them hopping into the tree and plucking a few leaves for an afternoon snack! any suggestions to keep them away, besides getting a dog to guard it?

I hope we get some suggestions here. For 17 years we have never had a problem with the squirrels. Early this morning, one of our squirrels was spotted in our hibiscus. My wife thought it was cute that he was climbing it. This evening when we got in from work, we discovered that 75% of the hibiscus leaves have been stripped along with 20% of the small branches. I sprinkled tabasco sauce on the remainder this evening hoping that it might save them.
