Star Hibiscus- Interesting experience

I just wanted to share this- a couple years ago, I decided to move my star hibiscus, however, when I dug it up w/ the pitchfork, the roots broke into two sections. Well, I thought I had killed it, but I planted the larger section and stuck the smaller one in a bucket of water. I forgot about it for a few days, then went back and looked, and it was definitely alive! So, I discovered it could be divided like a perennial. I still find it surprising. Probably, most of you all are old hands and already know about this, but some newbies might find it useful to know.

BTW, I love my star hibiscus for its lacy green foliage, its very large, dramatic red blossoms, and for being winter hardy (dies to the ground but always comes back in the spring). I am thinking about planting a Sambucus 'Black Lace' next to it- I think the foliage colors would make a nice contrast. If anyone has had any experience w/ putting these two plants together, please let me know. Brandyray
