dinner plate hib

i planted a dinner plate hib last year from a local nursery. I pruned it back in the fall, but it got lost in my garden. we put in some fresh humus and topsoil. anyway, when i was digging last week,i found a root that i thought was where the hib was. does this hib have a tuberous root? i can't see any new growth , but this tuber is firm and healthy. Can it be the dinner plate or is it something else?

I was planting something close to my texas star hibiscus and came across the root from it. It could, I suppose, resemble a tuber. But there were small roots coming off the main tap root. Don't know about the root system of a dinner plate though. So either your hibiscus is being stubborn or you have another surprise plant waiting to show itself.
I've had that happen lately - missed a lilly bulb when I moved a group of them and thy're showing up now. Joys of spring!
