hibiscus exposure question

Greetings friends, I frequent the fruits and orchards forum, this is my first time posting on this one. I was at the garden center today and couldn't resist a "Hibiscus rosa-sinensis" on sale for what I thought was a bargain.

For exposure, it says (on the label) to "place in a bright location, filtered indirect sun is best".

I am wondering if the corner of a house would be a good location or should I keep it in the patio? I'd like to put it in the ground, as the pot is not attractive. Would it be ok in the ground? Lastly, will it survive a central NC winter outdoors if I do put it in the ground? Many thanks,

that it would not survive a winter at below freezing temperatures. So pardon my in-experience. I did plant it in the ground in an area where it will get direct sun in the afternoon for about 2 and a half hours. I'll see how it does and chalk this one up as a learning experience.
