First Bloom

One of the hibiscus plants from last year has bloomed! It's a "Torchy" that I got from the University of Delaware that had beautiful blooms when it was planted last fall. I'm thrilled to see the flower, but a little concerned. It has really dark edges on the flower, almost as if it was starting to die... but the flower JUST opened today. Could it be the oppressive heat and lack of rain we are having? I noticed that there was an additional bud on the ground that had fallen off without opening. Here's a pick to show what I can't very well describe. Thanks

Bud drops, yellowing leaves, damaged petals are some signs of stress. I think it is the heat. Hope things cool off and you (and all of us) get better flowers.
