I had to look up blue river hibiscus. What a lovely bloom! It looks like a hardy hibiscus, it dies back to the ground after frost, right?

If it does, then after it blooms it should set some seed pods. The pods look a little like a beginning bud. They take several weeks to mature, but when mature they turn brown and begin to crack open at the top. Each pod will have 20 or more seeds. When they are brown just pop them off the plant and store whole, or open and scrape out the seeds. I plant some of the seeds right away in pots and let them winter on my porch. I usually get seedlings in the spring that way. I have also waited and planted in the spring and they germinate then as well.

gasn, probably a foolish question, but why can't they germinate right away? Do they have to go through a "cold" period like some other seeds?
