What to do with these huge tropical hibiscus!

So we moved to central Fl to this townhouse with 9ft tall tropical hibiscus.....can I shape these?? How do I prune them?? Theyre getting so big they block our entrance gate. Can I plant anything at the base or do they hog the soil?? Great blooms, very healthy. No bug problems. Occasionally have to spray cayenne to deter squirrels. They are simply taking up a lot of space leaning over the patio!!

Take cell/tablet photos in landscape mode with the bottom of your phone to your right and you will never have orientation issues.

yay what great tress you have there! you can certainly give them a trim and shape them up. if you want them to branch out from the cuts them cut just after a node on the branch so that it will grow from the node. those are definitely tall enough at this point that i would think more tree shape than bush.
