Hardy HIbiscus Question

I have a couple white hardy hibiscus that I started from seed and one is doing quite well (about 18 inches) and has several buds. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to make it into a tree (like they do with the tropical ones). If so, how would I do this?

TIA

If these are herbaceous perennial hibiscus, they are going to die back every winter and come back from the roots. Thinning to a single stem is going to seriously limit your blooms. If you are talling about Althea/Rose of Sharon (shrubs), yes, you can limit them to one stem but they will continue to sucker from the trunk at ground level.
