Hibiscus tree-clearance table at Lowe's...Now what???

Love hibiscus trees, found 4' one for $5, Pacifica Collection, so am giving it a try. Main question:how do nurseries keep these guys, or for that matter ANY tree, so healthy in relatively small containers (would love not to have to transplant this year; I have to overwinter it inside and it's already HEAVY to carry upstairs to best window). Also, should I prune it before bringing it inside, and how much water/fertilizer during winter? Space limited, have 2 lantana topiaries that compete for same window during winter. Thanks, Kat

They water every day and use time released fertilizer. By the time you get the tree, it's rootbound, so it's not going to do as well in that size pot. You'll need to put it into a bigger pot if you hope to get any more growth out of it.

You can root prune them by 1/3 every year to keep them in the same containers, but still, a 3 to 5 gallon pot isn't going to hold them for long. When they're rootbound, they can't take up nutrients.
