Potted Tree Hibiscus

I've had it outside all summer and it has done very well. I'll need to bring it in over Winter. It has started to develop leaves as the base of the trunk. Should these be removed?

Thanks,

Jane

I have it tied to a green plastic stake as it was loose after repotting. If you look at the bottom of the trunk, you will see the green growth.

Jane, if you wish to maintain the tree form, you can trim off the lower growth shoots. You might even try to root them for more plants ... to trade.

If you don't care about the tree form, the growth shoots can be left on.

Finally an answer. Thank you jroot. I'm not sure what to do, I'm new to this plant.
