Hibiscus seed on Ebay

Have I got this right?

Hibiscus species seed will give plantlets similar to the seed-bearing plant.

Hybrids will give all colors of hibiscus but none like the sead-bearing parent?

I take it you're talking about tropical hibiscus. If so, that is Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, which is a species. Cultivars are all the different varieties of bloom colors of this species.
Most times, when cultivars are mated, they will produce off-spring different than either parent.
Check out the International Hibiscus Society's website to see all the different registered cultivars of this species. Most have different parents, but a few, that look very different, have the same parentage (such as Irish Spring and Nightmare).
I hope this isn't too confusing!
What are the seeds you're looking at?
