pruning a hibiscus

Hi, Can these be pruned? If so when is the best time to do it? I would like to keep it about 4' tall right now it is over 7'. It is blooming now with a ton of buds still to come. I have read if you trim them they may do another round of flowers????

Which type of Hibiscus are you describing? I've given links for a couple of good articles regarding Rose of Sharon that may help you with the pruning question.

Hibiscus syriacus, aka Rose of Sharon or Shrub Althea.
