growth habit of hibiscus coccineus

I have an area that is constantly soggy, sunny, and I wanted to plant hibiscus coccineus. Does this plant sucker a lot or form large clumps? My only problem is the space is about 3' x 5', and I am wondering if this plant would over run it. Thanks

RE: growth habit of hibiscus coccineus

Each year, more stems do come up from the base, but only from a small area. If you don't trim it and let it grow tall, it will grow more up than out. I would think it should do fine.
If it does get too bushy, just cut back the branches you don't want at the base. You won't hurt the plant.
