hibiscus standard

I'd like to try to grow some hibiscus standards. I am a novice grafter and know that they are generally made by grafting the desired variety onto a tall rootstock cutting.

My question is, what is used for rootstock? Is there a particular form, variety, or species that grows long straight stems like this? Or will I have to raid a mature shrub for a good size stem and strip it down?

I bet the rootstock would be something like 'Brilliant', which is one of the hardiest variety's.
I didn't know that standard forms were grafted, although the one I have is a 'Brilliant' and isn't grafted.
I'd contact someone in the American Hibiscus Society, I'm sure they'd have the answer you're looking for.
