crossbreeding Red and White Texas Star?

Has anyone successfully produce seedlings with different color or patterns for the flowers? I recently planted both side by side and noticed these seed pods so I planted the seeds for the fun of it.

I am growing White Texas Star next to Hibiscus cubensis. Some seedlings appeared between them which I first thought to be Cuban Hibiscus, but now feel they are either White Texas Star or hybrids of the two species. It may take until next year to confirm what I have in these three identical looking, attractive seedling plants.
