How much sun?!!

Hi,

I'm redoing the front of our house, which is the side of our garage and is North-West facing. In the Summer the sun comes around over the house, and I believe it gets sun after around 2pm (less as we move into fall).

I'd like to put 5 hibiscus in there - 2 Lady Baltimores, 2 Blue Rivers and one other, but am a little worried about the "full sun" label on them.

Any thoughts/experiences?

thanks!

David

    Hi David

Full sun means sun hitting the leaves from sunrise to sunset. I have one rose of sharon that only gets about 4 hours a day and is wimpy and rarely blooms. The others get no shade until a few hours before sunset and they crank out the blooms.

Bottom line is they will bloom, but not the way they would if properly placed in the landscape.

Can I ask which 4 hours it gets in the day? I'm hoping that getting the full afternoon sun, and for around 6 hours, they might be ok?

It gets morning sun. Sun is sun, you will just have the built up heat of the day in the afternoon. That doesn't translate into light.
