Was this a type of hibiscus?

I was at my builder's office today and on my way in I noticed this plant(they have beautiful landscaping btw) which had a red flower at the very tip of the stalk..but what really caught my attention was that the stalks was pinkish/purple..had never seen anything like it..I wish that I had my camera with me...so I looked at the flower and it looked exactly like a hibiscus flower..but the stamen? wasnt yellow..but completely red like the petals...anyone have a clue if this is indeed a hibiscus or possibly something else? It did have dried seed pods so I got a few of those..the seeds are round and maybe about the size of a bb...Thanks.
