Hybiscus plants need to be pruned

Now that I have the thrips problem under control, thank you everyone for the info at the Florida Garden forum; I need to prune my hibiscus plants. They are way too tall, too wide and very dense. Should I trim them now or wait a little later when it really does get cooler? Should I use a hedge trimmer or prune them manually with pruners?

AS said in your post about deformed leaves, thrips weren't the problem. Instead, it was aphids.

That said, Cut back entire branches to decrease width and/or height. Then shorten what remains.

Prune whenever your pruners are handy. Hedge trimmers make ugly cuts when used on large-leaved plants. Ultimately, it's your choice.
