plant identification help?

early in spring I was given a 6 inch pot. I was told it is a hibiscus. The leaves are flad, broad and deep green. They look like large maple leaves today, because the plant went form about a foot tall to more than 6 ft tall in one growing season.

The flowers are unusual. They look like little orange lanterns. They start as tiny buds, on the end of longish slight stems. They point down, are orange and veined in burgundy.

I'd take a photo, but unfortunately there are no flowers today and a mix of winds and rain left the plant broken and lying down.

I took a tall stem, stripped the leaves and put it in a deep, moist pot. Any idea who this is or if the stem might root for next year?

thank you

cynthia

I was told what the plant is but I don't know how to spell it.

    sounds lik

    B-u-t-lon

I've tried to spell it many different ways, never thought it could be so difficult. I know it is in the hibiscus family. Maybe some of you will recognize this?
    thanks again
