In the late spring I picked up this sorry looking Shrub type thing on clearance. Then name on the container said hibiscus, but it didnt look anything like one. I brought it home, replanted it and gave it some TLC. It is now huge! I would love to find a way to keep it throught the winter. I just have no idea what it is. It is a purple/maroon color, the leaves look similiar to a pot plant in shape. It has never bloomed. a few people said maybe its a hardy hibiscus, but i'm not sure. If i figure out how to upload a pic, i will...any ideas on what it could be??

I have the same plant, it is not winter hardy. Mine got over 7' tall and never bloomed. I plan to take cuttings so I can keep it over the winter. Tomorrow I will go out and look for the tag and see what it is called. I love the leaves, it looks so great now with all the other fall colors.

I found the tag, it's h acetosella Red Shield. Hardy only zones 8 to 11.It might still bloom for you, fall is the normal bloomtime.

If it gets seeds, save them and replant next year.
