Leaf notcher weevil

Some of my hibiscus are being attacked by leaf notcher weevils (small white beetle-like insects that don't fly). They are eating their leaves and leaving stems behind. I have only seen 2 of the weevils as they seem to hide in the soil during the day. In the mornings I find some brown elongated material left behind on the leaves which I believe are the eggs. In my research online, I don't see much that can be done to eradicate them. Has anyone had any experience with them, and if so, what have you been able to do to eradicate them? I certainly would appreciate any help you can give. I have tried spraying them with an insect spray containing acephate, but it has not helped. I have also tried granular insect disease and mite with no success.

If weevils, eggs are typically in the soil.

    Pictures might help.

Or consider discussing the issue with the folks in your county's Extension Center office.
Use the map at the link to find that office in your county.
