What is still destroying my hibiscus?

I admit I have not been a "vigilant" gardener this year!

Even though I used Rotenone,

something has chewed holes in my hibiscus leaves until they look like lace....and it is still happening!

I thought it was those Japanese beetles, but I see no more sign of them and the leaves continue to be destroyed.

Can I just cut down the plants, mulch as usual and wait for next year?

Any help would be good!

Thanks!

Joyce

Joyce, I had trouble with the Japanese beetles chewing on everything this summer! The leaves on my sandhill cherry especially look like "lace"! They were on my hibiscus too but now seem to have disappeared. I have seen Asian beetles on mine lately and they do the same type of damage. My blue satin hibiscus is still blooming but as soon as its done I'm going to cut it back to the ground and mulch it. I hate to resort to insecticides but I will be using something next year if the beetles return!

Maybe grasshoppers? JB's are done and gone, but I've noticed a few grasshoppers munching on I believe my Confederate Rose. This is the first time I'd ever seen grasshoppers in my yard, in 9 years. I don't use any pesticides.
