Hardy Hibiscus losing its pizzazze.

This is probably a good 15 - 20 year old bed. I started it from a few root cuttings. I figure it is time to rejuvenate the bed as it is not blooming as well as it has in the past.

The pic is about 5 years old and it still looked good but not so much this year. Leaves look great, just a lot less bloom.

When is the best time? Should I wait until after frost? Wait until the Spring? It is very tightly knit in there as it is restricted from spreading by a 4" deep plastic barrier.

When I do this, do I just get in there and chop. pry, and pull? I am probably going to have many extra roots and plan to give them away.

I guess I just need to know what to expect. Maybe I can just attack half of the bed and see what happens.

    Figure out why fewer blooms.

Perhaps other plants/trees/structures are now casting more shade?
