Dinner Plate Hibiscus

Posted by mikeinmo Z6 MO (My Page) on

I planted two dinner plate Hibiscus in the spring, they were small and still only about 12" tall at the end of summer. Since we had a frost, they died back completely to the ground. Is this normal? I have tropical ones and Rose of Sharon's that I am familiar with, but these dinner plate ones are a first for me.
Thanks,
Mike

Yes, it is normal. Next spring, they will come back bigger and bushier. They tend to come back a little later than other perrinials, so, don't give up on them. Mulch them good for winter. I just throw a bunch of leaves on mine.
