Root cuttings - propagation

I know that Rose of Sharon can be propagated by root cuttings, so I was wondering if a hardy hibiscus will propagate in this manner as well? Anyone try this?

    Yes I took a branch and it took several months but leaves popped out.

    can anyone explain the best (or a good way) to do this? How much to cut off, what medium to use for rooting etc?
