HYBRID passionfruit

We have some kind of hybrid lilikoi growing that we acquired. These fruits are HUGE! Not sure how to harvest these suckers! Bugs or rats usually get to them before we do. They grow all the way up the trees they are attached to. Some fall from their weight. Others get eaten by???How do I know when they are ripe and how do you eat these kind of hybrids. Sounds silly I know. They produce these pretty purple flowers if that gives idea of what kind

Sounds like you have the giant granadilla species of the passiflora. I know they have purple flowers. Here's a link to check it out.
