| Hi folks, I'm not a poster on your forum as I'm not actually in Hawaii, but I'm hoping you can help!
I'm actually in NY but I'm in the process of designing a Polynesian themed garden. I'm planning to use several of the carved tiki statues and maybe some lanterns. Also, if I can find it, I may use some items with sea turtles. I need help though with a design for an arbor. I want something with a Polynesian look and feel that might even tie together the other elements. Here's where I want the arbor to go (where it says HERE in the picture) I'll be planting tropical looking plants in that bed...(excuse the dreary picture, it's a chilly, dreary winter day here)... Do any of you have ideas on how I could make something with the look and feel I'm looking for or better yet pictures of arbors from your garden that fit that design? 1 more thing, I can not do a thatched roof of any kind because we get pretty severe winds where I'm located! Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer! Tara

| Hi Tara, you seldom ever see a thatched roof here in Hawaii either, (incredibly flammable.) A more authentic island roof material is corrugated tin, usually a hipped roof. If you have a source for bamboo stalks, that can be a good tropical look. |
