Brighamia - Olulu

Hi -- Does anyone in Hawaii know if this plant is for sale? It is protected and endangered, but has been growing in numbers from pollination and seeds. I will be traveling to the Big Island and Kauai - and wonder if you know about this plant and if it is for sale at any nurseries, etc. TIA

We have protected and endangered plants here in AZ and they sometimes sell seed or small plants to encourage continuing growth of the plants.

I'm not from Hawaii, but I bought one at a plant sale for the local Cacti and Succulent societies here in Los Angeles. It is definitely available, but you might have a time tracking it down...

Hi Dave - Thanks for the info. When I'm out your way, I'll look around for one. I've been searching for an olulu for a while.

No problem Michele -- here's the link for the San Gabriel Valley Cacti and Succulent Society -- I bought my plant at their last tri-county society sale. Maybe they could give you some info...

Here is a link that might be useful: San Gabriel Valley Cactus and Succulent Society

Thanks Dave . . . I wrote the club to ask about the Olulu. I loved the site and all the links. Thanks!

Kind of late to be posting this ... you didn't say when you were traveling ... but last time I was at the Amy BH Greenwell Botanoical Garden, near Captain Cook on the Big Island, they had several Olulu for sale.
