I've been vegetable gardening in Nanakuli for 2 years now and watching beans, hot peppers, cucumbers and other vegetables succomb to nematodes. First the plants do well, then get dieback. The soil is very sandy, and I am incorporating chicken manure, but I thought I'd see if anyone had any other solutions outside of container gardening.

You might try using marigolds as companion plants. Some marigolds (Tagetes minuta) produce a chemical that root knot nematodes don't like. I believe that T. minuta has recently been classified as a noxious weed in Hawaii. You might try common, garden varieties of marigold (T. lucida, and T. patula) which also produce the same chemical.
