Heliconia Rhizome Problems.

I bought some heliconia rhizomes (Lobster Claw One, Purpurea, Orthotricha, and Jacquinii) a few months ago. However, it's been taking a while for them to sprout. I had a lot of rhizomes in the beginning, and now I only have about five. I've also been noticing that the new shoots start to turn yellow or die back and there's some caterpillar eating into the rhizome.

I only have about three plants that are successfully growing, while I am unsure of the others.

The environment where I'm located is usually dry and somewhat windy (depending on the time of the year).

I'm in desperate need of help. I've been searching online for answers, but everyone seems to connect to sites of basic heliconia growing.
