| Can anyone tell me if the following plants can be shipped to the mainland and if so are there any sources for seed/plants for these species: Abutilon menziesii, Bidens torta, Gardenia brighamii or hibiscus brackenridgei |

| Here is the site from the State of Hawaii on exporting plants: http://www.hawaiiag.org/hdoa/adminrules/AR-73.pdf |

| Hi -- Just got back from Hawaii and shipped cuttings home. I do know that no Gardenias are allowed out of the state. Also, no Jade vines either which is sad because its a gorgeous plant. You can't even bring out the flowers in leis. Your best bet would be to call a certified/inspected nursery and find out details of what they are allowed to ship out of state. Here's a couple links that might help: http://www.hawaiiag.org/hdoa/pi_pq_export.htm http://www.hawaiiag.org/hdoa/pi_pq_contacts.htm Michele |

No Roses either. The mainland has Japanese beetles and doesn't want the black chinese ones either. No fruit other than coconuts and pineapples. Orchids are generally ok. I've shipped things back both by mail and in carry one. Ag Inspection takes only moments. I take my pump sprayer (spritzer) and use "Isotox" before I leave Hawaii and hit all remaining foliage so that hitchhikers are dead and I won't bring any unwelcome guests to California. The stuff stinks and I guess the inspectors know that I'm being responsible. I've had trouble with some inspectors on Maui but no trouble on Hawaii. |
