help with my kava plant

I ordered a kava plant that was shipped to me about a month ago and when it arrived the leaves were green. Now the leaves are all turning brown. What could this be? I left it in the soil it was shipped in and put it in a larger pot and added more soil. I really want this to thrive. Any help is appreciated.

May we know where you are located? Are you in South Carolina?

If so, perhaps it's still acclimating to the new environment or not. I'm pretty sure you know that Piper methysticum or kava is a tropical plant.
