natural fertilizing alternatives

Hi everyone,

I just started to grow plants again (since I was a little kid) and was wondering if anyone knew alternatives to fertilizers that I may be able to use. I know that coffee grounds and tea leaf leftovers make good nitrogen snacks for plants (though I've heard accounts saying that they're both slow releasing and quick releasing nitrogen additives), but I haven't had much luck finding a lot of information about other key nutrients. I very much want to conserve resources, and being a poor college student, what little money I manage to earn. So if there's anything that I can use that usually ends up in the trash, that'd be great! If it helps, I am currently living in Kaimuki, so I'm very close to different geographical features (i.e. parks, beaches, forests, etc.). I do plan to build a composting bin once I pull together the money and the resources, but in the mean time, I'd really like to keep my veggies, herbs, and plants healthy and happy with whatever I can pull together.

Thanks in advance!

Kui
