| The old "Lokelani" is still around but must be protected from the chinese rose beetles and has become rare. There are other sub-tropical roses around. Some are from Bermuda, Maurtius and other places. Use the google search engine to locate "tropical rose". I've seen roses in the Audobon garden in Key West. There is a pink nearly thornless one from Bermuda that grows in that garden. |

I would like to know that also..I have a "Joseph's coat" climbing rose thatI have planted in a pot..because there are so many lava rocks underground!) It was growing great then I see leaves getting chewed up then no leaves..someone told me to put crushed egg shells around the top of the pot as it was most likely "slugs" eating up the leaves..I did so and by golly seems to be working as new leaves are out and growing great. I most likely should have posted this on another topic sorry! Shirl |

| Does "Lokelani" come in cream colors? I always thought they were red, but I got an unknown rose (from her sister Pat's garden in Kauai) at a plant sale this weekend. Looks like "Lokelani" but a creamy white color. Smells wonderful, no thorns, has the lighter branch structure of "Lokelani". There are many different varieties of roses in my yard, although they do like to be dusted occasionally because of rose beetles. "Chrysler Imperial" is really red and smells wonderful, "Don Juan" is the same thing in a climbing version. "Old Smoothie" is a climbing red rose with no thorns that smells nice. Pinch off the old flowerheads and prune the branches back occasionally and they will bloom more and the shrub will be in a more compact shape. The Chrysler Imperial by the driveway (hey, with a name like that, where else could I plant it?) almost always has blooms on it and it gets a lot of pruning. |
