Hi,
I live in NC and have gardenias blooming now. Does anyone have detailed instructions on how to make a scented oil with all these fresh blooms?
Thanks Sandie

I do happen to know how to make gardenia-scented water but not the oil. I can give you instruction if you like.

OK

Here is a diagram of the setup:

1) put a small heat-proof cup in the center of the pot.

2) put some water around the cup. not too much or the cup will tip over when the water boils. you could try weighing it down with something.

3) take lid of the pot, invert, and fill with ice and water.

4) start boiling the water. put the flowers in the water and immediately put on the upside-down lid.

5) the vapors of the flowers' fragrance will condense on the cold surface of the lid and collect in the center and drip into the cup.

You have to play around with how many flowers, how much water, and how long to boil. Don't boil for too long or you will start to add just water.
