Advise on Ginger, please

| 3 yrs. ago I have been given a small white ginger from a friend. It is sitting now in a 16in. pot! This summer I noticed the first fat flower buds, but only one small flower emerged. What could I have done wrong?

Aloha, Also where is it growing? Indoor/outdoor, full sun, have you done any fertilizing, etc. At least you got one flower, that is better than no flower! What zone are you in?
