Grapes!

I bought a two variety of 6-inches potted grapes while I was at Lowes hoping to buy some blueberry plant. The two varieties I have are the Seedless Perlette and Seedless Ruby. This is another of my impulse buy, I have no idea what there requirement when I bought them. The cashier was surprised that they are selling grapes.

I did a bit of research when I got home and learn that grapes could be grown in the tropics. Some are interesting to read, like how people force to induce dormancy for the grapes. Anyone here have pictures of their own grapevine and could you please share your experiences in growing it?

randg usually i see the blueberries being offered in late winter, early spring. i'll give you a shout out if i see them again ; )

My friend's uncle grows grapes right down the road from us. i don't think he does anything special but i'm not positive about that. He is at about 700' elevation which is not too high. The winery is quite a bit higher than that.

A few varieties of grapes grow at sea level. Unfortunately, the leaves are enjoyed by beetles.

I just bought 2 grape plants too. impulse. They were these tiny litle green grapes. I don't know what to do with them so i planeted them and put a fence behind it to grow up. I shall see if it produces and fruit. The person told me it was year round fruit, so hopefully, that works. I didn't plant it with the best of soil because I had none at the time and I just was eager to get it started... it seems to be healthy and growing. no fruit yet, but i just got it.

Lynnsato, the plant(s) when you bought them were already bearing fruits? Where did you buy them? Are they both the same variety or different?

I emailed the Pang's Nursery, the grapes I bought from Lowes originated from Pang's Nursery, and asked them if it will survive in Waipahu climate and what soil requirement do they need. I got a reply recently, and hopefully Keri Pang won't mind me sharing her reply to my email:

"Yes, they should be fine in Waipahu climate. Please give them full sun. Just make sure the soil drains well, but besides that there isn't a particular soil that they prefer. We use regular potting mix. If you plant them into the ground and you have a very heavy, clay dirt, then amend with compost/potting mix."

I still didn't plant the grapes on the ground, I'll probably do it this weekend. It will be in the backyard next to the fence.

Yippee for impulse buying! lol. I hope this impulse buy turn out successful.
