According to a soon-to-be released book titled "Ornamental Trees of San Diego: Mediterranean Climate Trees for The Garden," some Ficus species DO produce aerial roots in dry climates, although not as readily as in tropical ones. The book notes that this is true of Ficus microcarpa and F. rubiginosa. For more information on this book, which will be available in November, see the site below.

I've seen other Ficus species with aerial roots in San Diego, but I'm afraid I don't know their names. Good luck!

On the coast of CA- Ficus, banyon type grow very well and produce aerial roots, one of the largest banyon trees in the U.S. is in Santa Barbara. Also screw pine, philodendrun and another one that escapes me at the moment.epidendrum orchids that grow in my front yard.
