Hello,

Last summer, I studied a forest in Hawai'i, but I have some problems of species determination... I would be glad if you could help me. You don't have to be a specialist of Hawai'i, because these pictures show alien species !

Thank you very much !

Here is a link that might be useful: to see the pictures of these mistery plants

Looks like grasses, an unknown plant (not plumeria, though), green bamboo, and "heavenly bamboo" which isn't actually a bamboo at all. Those are just my guesses, though.

Second photo is definitely African Milk Bush
(Synadenium grantii)

and the 4th pic is neither Heavenly bamboo or Cestrum nocturnum as two others have guessed. My 2 cents is that it greatly resembles Common elderberry (Sambucus canadensis) perhaps a different species.

Regarding the elder it looks just like those in a Seattle park planting that is supposed to be all local natives. Friend and I guessed they were received as blue elderberry (Sambucus mexicana, syn. S. cerulea) but are obviously not that species, having a different structure and being in leaf and flower in December! A related species from Mexico?
