| Hello,
This tree is at the San Diego zoo in their "Hawaiian garden" area, but it has no name and I couldn't find anyone to identify it. I've looked and looked on the web... Click the thumbnails for big picture.
To me the trunk sort of looks like a Schizolobium also the new branch growth how it is very green and tender..
Thanks!

| I've been told by the San Diego Zoo that it is a Munroidendron racemosum |
Here is a link that might be useful: Monroidendron US Botanic Garden link

| It's a protected species if I'm not mistaken. Very rare and hard to obtain. |

| I have a tree thats about ten feet tall. Its first raceme is forming. I'm hoping I can get some seeds. Many Hawaiian plants are considered rare but are quite common in cultivation. Some Endangered Plants common in cultivation: Gardenia brighamii, Munroidendron racemosum, Hibiscus brackenridgei, Achyranthes splendens, Kokia drynarioides, Brighamia insignis, Abutilon menziesii, Sesbania tomoentosa, Pritchardia remota, etc. It became legal to posess Hawaiian endangered species in 1998. |
