Trying to identify vine...

Posted by cocopop Oahu (My Page) on

Recently, a vine sprouted in my backyard. It is growing next to a redwood fence and has crept up the fence and post. The leaves are heart shaped and the flowers are single blossoms, violet in color. Before opening even, they give off a fragrant scent. The scent is like Pakalana...but my nose is messed up now from smelling it so much. I always thought Pakalana had yellowish greenish blossoms, but...

Can anyone identify this plant for me? TIA for any assistance you can provide...

I don't know the name of it, but eliminate it fast. It's enveloped the majority of the ginger, bamboo, and heliconia all over the property I'm renting, and it's not easy to control.

Passiflora?

Am virtually certain it's not passiflora. Here's a picture of a leaf and flower...

Looks like something in the morning glory family (Convolvulaceae).

Try emailing the picture to UH tropical ag. dept. It almost looks like banana polka, but the flower looks smaller.

Banana poka = Passiflora mollissima.
