Determinate Tomatoes

I'm not very experienced with tomato plants and I just read that determinate tomato plants produce just one major crop and thereafter are not very productive. Is this true for Hawaii varieties as well? I'm in the Aiea area.

RE: Determinate Tomatoes

I found determinate tomatos to produce a small, one time crop, then die. I would only plant indeterminate tomatos. Unfortunaltely, tomatos are very susceptible to a plethora of diseases and pests. I finally limited myself to cherry tomatos, they are less susceptible to fruit fly damage.

RE: Determinate Tomatoes

determinate tomatoes are used by big farms so they can harvest just once.
indeterminates are usually marketed for home growers so they have a few tomatoes at a time.

It's genetic, they do their thing wherever they're grown.
