botanical names from Hawaiian common names

| I've got my hands on 2 plants that are simply labelled "Nu'I" and another "'Uki 'Uki"
Can anyone correlate each to a botanical name?

| The U of hawaii has a nice online database, sorry to eat up board space! Uki Uki =Dianella sandwicensis na'u= Gardenia brighamii |

| Na'u or nu'i? I'm not familiar with either of those names, but it sure sounds like 2 different things. I know what niu is, though-- coconut. Does your plant look like G. brighamii? The 'uki grass is right. |

| I was going by memory of the label when I originally posted and I screwed up the vowels. I was trying to remember by word association and I goofed; it is indeed a gardenia. |
