I have creeping thyme on my hill, and it does very well. I got it from my friend and don't know what type it is. It doesn't hold up to traffic at all, though. I had a landscape designer draw up plans for another hill on my property, and she recommended vinca minor as a groundcover. She said it's a lot tougher, gets a pretty blue flower, and will be evergreen. Good luck.

Vinca, periwinkle is an invasive plant so be careful. I love it but it can take over a garden or lawn in the blink of an eye.

You will definitely learn to hate perriwinkle if it ends up anywhere on your property (or your neighbor's property, or the property down the street).

I don't know exactly what we have at the bottom of that hill now, but it was so thick when we bought the house we had to hire someone with a huge walk behind mower to mow the area, and really have to stay on top of it to keep it from getting out of control. The man called it water *something*, but I'm not sure of its real name, and he said it was extremely invasive, and that even if we got rid of it, we'd never truly be rid of it. We may just have to consider terracing that area of our yard at some point, and deal with mowing for now. I realized quickly why the previous owners had a goat (no kidding!).
