Growing Creeping Thyme on Hill

On the north side of my home, we have a grassed slope. We don't have a flat piece of land, and have to push mow everything, and a part of this slope is the most difficult to mow, as it is very steep. This side of the house is where my children play, and I'm wondering if creeping thyme would be a good option to cover at least the worst part of the slope. The kids would keep off of it, although I've heard it can take some traffic. If there are any other ideas, I'd love to hear those as well. I'm not a fan of junipers, and we do have the occasional snake.

Thanks,

Chandres
