Plant trees on slope?

We bought a new house several months ago, which has a small backyard and immediately behind it a relatively steep hill about 15-20 feet tall. I'm not sure about the angle, but it's steep enough to make walking up fairly treacherous--I'm guessing 30-40 degrees or so.

It being a new neighborhood, there are no trees around, and we'd like to plant some along the edges of our yard (on the hill). Specifically, we were thinking about an apple (spartan), magnolia (saucer), and a maple (coral bark).

Will this be a problem, or would they take root and adapt fairly easily to the slope?

Thanks in advance!
