June,
Maybe you could tell the administrator of HT about the problem and see what he says and report back to us...please????? thanks.

RE: Homesteading Today

I finally figured out a way to get ahold of Chuck. This was his email back to me:

Sorry about that. The server is having major problems. We're using this opportunity to move to a new dedicated host, though, so once we get it back up and running, we shouldn't have this problem anymore.
Sorry for the trouble,
Chuck

 o
progress

The msg I'm getting now is that the server is too busy. So they are making progress.

I'm just having withdrawls! LOL

RE: Homesteading Today

Seems like things are going backwards, not forward...now back to the forbidden message again, rather than the explanation of things to come.
Withdrawal symptoms are getting bad!

RE: Homesteading Today failure redux

I am going through withdrawal. Found this thread when googling HT- think I did not know about HT back in 2004. Paul Wheaton (permies) said he'd email Chuck- no info that route yet.

Our first thread will no doubt be 'what I got done while HT was down'

RE: Homesteading Today

It's still down. It's a trivial thing to put up a one page message telling us what is going on. You can ping homesteadingtoday.com and it responds that it's awake.

My bet is that it's a serious matter. There's no good reason we shouldn't be provided status.

RE: Homesteading Today

It seems that HomesteadingToday is getting an attach, denial of service. Google "Chuck Holton Homesteading" and then click on the first link. This is what you'll get for a few seconds, before it aborts to a "OOOPS Page".

Maintenance Outage

We've been getting some 'pings' from some not-so-nice 'visitors.'

In fact so many, they crashed the system ... HARD

No worries though, we've got all the data safe and are in the process of reconfiguring the server ... yeah ... it was that bad of an attack.
Anyway, Figure on us getting back online within the next day or so as we take some punitive ... we mean counter-measures ... while watching our bbs files get restored.

All part of the excitement by participating in the Internet's #1 homesteading site.

As always, thanks so much for your patience, and in the interim - some links to some homesteading blogger links to entertain and educate you while we get the locked file all nice and fixed:

* LiveFire Ministries with Chuck Holton
* Boots on the Ground - Chuck Holton Blog - CBN News
* American Heroes - a new book by Oliver North and Chuck Holton
* blogs4God.com - a semi-definitive list of Christians who blog
* Heal Your Church WebSite - including a recent write-up on Chrome
* blogJordan - the blog about the journeys (mine and others) that is Jordan
* The Homesteading Housewife

* The Back Forty
* Deliberate Life
* Stitchin' Gnome
* Northern Farmer
* Mrs. B's Cottage
* June Cleaver After A Six-Pack

And as if there weren't enough links ... here's more!

* 1 acre homestead
* 3 acre homestead
* Back to Basic Living Blog
* The Beginning Farmer
* Homesteader 101
* Chandler's Grove: A Day in the Life of Me
* Joys in the Journey
* Collis Family Homestead
* Stories from the Farm

And if the above links aren't enough, there's fun to be had at our fearless leader's (Chuck's) blog at LiveFire.us

Dean's also been busy on his blog writing about how to harden a new server.

That and he's been blogging about Jordan again.
In the meantime, here's a quick list of other interesting websites you're sure to enjoy:

For you hard-core homesteaders, Chuck recommends these online 'zines:

If nothing else, you can check out Chuck's very cool online photo album.

RE: Homesteading Today

Hey everyone, this is Ladycat from HT.

Yes, HomesteadingToday has been down several days. They were cyberattacked and the server crashed really hard. Matt and Dean (server techs), ended up having to delete everything off the server and build it back from scratch a file at a time. They are both volunteers and have full time jobs so they can only work on it in their spare time.

Nevertheless, they expect the site to be back up as soon as today (Thursday), but shouldn't be later than Saturday.

In the meantime, members are meeting at the HT Facebook page to chat and to get updates:

Here is a link that might be useful: Homesteading Today at Facebook

I was getting worried and too am suffering from "HT Withdrawal!!!"

I feel bad about the attacks, but glad to hear that they're working on it. See ya there...

RE: Homesteading Today

It is Monday and still no HomesteadingToday. I have developed a twitch and a tremor as I go through HT withdrawls. Curse those people who caused that site to crash! I guess good things take time.
