Hi,
I am not familiar with the breed, I'm trying to learn about chickens. Is this a breed which is referred to as a "heritage" breed or "heirloom" breed? THose I've heard are best for homesteading.

My question for you is this...First of all, how much would they be each? Also, I live near Frankfort, Ky. Would it be too hard to get them here?
Thank you for your time and your post. ~Karen

It developed over time in the state of New Jersey. Originally they were a dark-colored meat stock selected for size from Partridge Cochins, Dark Brahmas, Dark Cornish, and Barred Rocks. Later when they were wanted blacker, Black Langshan, Black Java, Black Orpington, and more Dark Cornish were added. The Brahma, Langshan, and Cochin made for a large-framed bird of mostly Asiatic blood, while the Cornish allowed better breast muscle. I got that off the web . They are a meat bird .

Bull, have you tried Cackle Hatchery in Lebanon, Missouri? Their minimum order is 15, not 25. I realize that's still about twice as many as you want, but having extras allows you to pick the best growing, most correct birds to keep. (And those culls taste just fine, BTW)
